\nPlanning and zoning serve as th e basis for all communities—the communities of your past and present\, as well as communities of the future. This course will teach you the basic co mponents and processes of the planning and zoning phases of real estate de velopment\, and how these phases must lead us to a better way of developin g communities through the application of smart growth principles. You will learn how to not only strengthen your business but also become an advocat e for smart\, sustainable\, equitable growth in your community. In effect\ , by the time this course is complete\, you will see the future of your co mmunity\, and your business\, in a whole new way!
\nThe goals of this course are for students to:

- Acquire a greater underst anding of the visioning\, planning\, and zoning process to empower you as a community advocate and as a real estate professional. \n
- < span style='font-size: 18pt\;'>Learn to effect positive change in your com munity and gain a competitive advantage for your business by advocating fo r smart growth principles. \n
- Learn practical skills and strategies to strengthen your business by hel ping to create more environmentally sustainable\, equitable\, and financia lly resilient communities. \; \; \n

Contributions are not deductible for federal income tax purposes. Contributions to the \;Texas REALTORS® Political Action Comm ittee (TREPAC) and the Texas Association of \;REALTORS® Federal Politi cal Action Committee (TAR FedPAC)—which makes \;contributions to the R EALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC)—are voluntary and \;may be used for political purposes. The amount indicated is merely a guideline\, and you \;may contribute more or less than the suggested amount. You m ay refuse to contribute \;without reprisal\, and the National Associat ion of REALTORS®\, Texas REALTORS®\, and its \;local associations will not favor or disadvantage anyone because of the amount \;contributed.
