A high percentage of all natural disasters involve flooding\, an d many areas of the country have experienced floods or flash floods in rec ent years. Damage from flooding is not covered under a standard homeowner' s policy. Flood insurance is a special policy that is federally backed by the (NFIP)\, the National Flood Insurance Program\, and available for home owners\, renters and businesses. The National Flood Insurance Program aims to reduce the impact of flooding on private and public structures. It doe s so by providing affordable insurance to property owners and by encouragi ng communities to adopt and enforce floodplain management regulations.
